The Community Scholarship Foundation of Canon-McMillan, Dollars for Scholars is a locally operated and supported non-profit, tax-exempt scholarship foundation with a tax ID (46-5118613) that has been in existence for 34 years. Operated by an all-volunteer Board of Directors, its purpose is to expand access to educational opportunities by involving and assisting our community in the support of students and in the encouragement of educational achievement. The foundation is a chapter affiliate of Scholarship of America, a nationally recognized non-profit student aid service organization. The chapter's initial place of business is Canon-McMillan Senior High School 314 Elm Street Extension, Canonsburg, PA 15317. In celebrating our 34th year, we are inviting the community to demonstrate their support for local students by supporting our fundraising activities or sponsoring scholarships.
This year will be the 20th year of the Jack-O-Lantern Jog 5k Run and Skeleton Stroll sponsored by the foundation. This is a family-oriented event with costumes, awards, basket raffle, 50/50, food and a lot of fun. This is our organization's biggest fundraiser. We have set a goal to raise $30,000 and with your help we can achieve this goal. Approximately 250 individuals, young and old, participate yearly. Products donated are used as participant prizes and/or basket raffle prizes. Monetary donations of less than $500 are combined to form scholarships. Donations of $500, $1000, or more will be presented in your name at the annual scholarship banquet in May of 2025. This past year, the foundation awarded approximately $57,000 in scholarships to 59 graduating seniors at the May 2023 banquet.
This year, the jog will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024. We are excited to be holding the jog once again at the Canon-McMillan Senior High School on Elm Street Extension, Canonsburg, PA 15317. The 5k race will begin at 9:00 am and the Skeleton Stroll at 9:05 am. We will have plenty of parking and a large area indoors for runners, spectators, and sponsors. All attendees will have the opportunity to purchase and deposit their tickets for the raffle baskets and 50/50 drawing. Additional tickets (25 tickets for $10.00 or 75 tickets for $20.00) can be purchased at the event but must be deposited by 9:00 am.
You can show your support in one of three ways: Corporate Sponsorship, a Personal or Group Sponsorship, and a Product and/or Raffle Basket donation. Kindly take a few minutes to review the enclosed information and consider making a donation. No donation is too small, and every donation helps. All donations must be received by September 30, 2024.
